The TechBroSF ethos is that everything should be monetized, even misfortune. That's right. Someone else's misfortune is your opportunity! A prime example of this is the poverty pimp who uses a GoFundMe page to raise thousands and thousands of dollars. Exaggeration is key to this kind of hucksterism because that is the way you can raise big bucks. So go on and on about fentanyl and poop and God, and never actually mention the poor people who live in your neighborhood. Plus, don't worry about being a young able bodied white dude who wants to carry a gun (especially this gun) everywhere and hates Democrats. And don't worry about the absurd idea that you own a car when living in the densest part of San Francisco, and then ask for money from others. This ploy still works for us. Also, don't mention about not actually needing money to move, or that you aren't even planning on moving, but instead, going on an extended road trip. Party time! And that takes money!
And if you don't collect enough money just create a second GoFundMe page to increase your take. Frankly, creating a fake group called World Peace Movement is brilliant!
Here is a counter example. Cedric is raising money to stay in the Tenderloin. Not nearly as many people are going to donate to a person who actually needs the money and who isn't going to hype his neighborhood as a dystopian hellhole.
